SA FLOWERS to Japan and SA foodstuffs to
Zimbabwe are two local perishables frequently
moved by air, according to a leading
Johannesburg GSA.
“We have shipped a lot of flowers to Japan on
Egyptair, using Cairo as a transhipment point. Our
main perishable export from South Africa is flowers.
In Cairo they have beautiful facilities - four cold
storage rooms set at different temperatures from
0° C upward,” said Gerd von Mansberg of The
Cargo Connection.
TCC represents Airlink, Egyptair, Air Zimbabwe
and Coyne Airlines, whose destinations include
Iraq. The company is positioned to take on more
air cargo. All carriers can be utilised by customers
requiring transport of perishables, and TCC will
soon add another air carrier to its roster.
As for Zimbabwe, airfreight continues to deliver
SA goods that are urgently required, from food to
paper stock to print currency.
“We have enjoyed a long run with Air
Zimbabwe. We do ship a lot of food. The flights
are full and there are shipments of products for
those in the country who have forex,” said
Von Mansberg.
