THE 25 000 m² extension to the Port of Maputo’s ferro chrome terminal is expected to be completed in less than two months. Construction has begun and June 2007 is the deadline date. The port’s first new ferro terminal was commissioned less than two years ago and is already operating close to capacity, according to a spokesman for the Maputo Port Development Company. “The terminal handled in excess of 500 000 tons in 2006 which was mainly shipped to the steel mills of northern Europe, Japan and China. “We believe this trade will exceed 1m tons per annum over the next few years.”
