Jacob Nare . . .growing involvement in landside terminal operations through the port concessioning process. Terry Hutson JACOB NARE has been appointed the new chief executive officer of P&O Ports Nationwide, one of South Africa’s stevedore and port terminal operators. Nare’s background includes the old Portnet and SA Port Operations, and he was manager of the Port of Durban Multi Purpose Terminal (MPT) at the time of the merger of the MPT and City Terminals (Point) Durban. He also served as commercial and marketing manager at the Port of Saldanha. During his time with SA Port Operations he travelled overseas to look at terminal operations prior to the development of the Port of Durban 2005 project, which includes the redevelopment of the Point docks area. He also spent seven months at the port of Hamburg studying operative management in seaports. More recently Nare worked as a director of SA Fruit Terminals in Cape Town, and retains an interest in the company. P&O Ports Nationwide, part of the international P&O Ports group, intends growing its involvement in landside terminal operations through the port concessioning process, says Nare. The international company managed the Durban Container Terminal for a one year period several years ago after being appointed by the government.
