Investigation under way following LPG tanker collision in Indonesia

Investigators are still assessing the damages caused by a collision between an LPG tanker and a container ship in Indonesian waters on Monday evening.

According to media reports, the LPG tanker, Navigator Aries, collided with a container ship, Leo Perdana, near the island of Karang Dzhamuang, 20 miles north of Surabaya, Indonesia.

The collision reportedly caused a fire on the tanker, which was quickly put out. The 23 333-dwt tanker suffered a 5-metre breach on its port side. Local maritime authorities sent four tugboats to assist the stricken vessels, reported World Maritime News.

The extent of the damage on the 2 553-TEU Leo Perdana, currently docked at Surabaya port, is unknown.
