Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, has directed the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to investigate an incident involving a traffic official displaying “aggressive behaviour” and not displaying his full credentials.
This after a member of the public shared cellphone video footage of the officer who was not wearing his official badge. The recording shows him trying to prevent the motorist from taking the footage.
Peters has instructed the RTMC to identify the officer and his deployed locality (municipality or province). “This will then lead to official charges,” she said, adding that the footage showed the officer acting in contravention of the National Road Traffic Law Enforcement Code.
She also called on all the members of the executive council (MECs) of transport in all provinces to carefully study the video footage and take action wherever this incident occurred.
