MEDITERRANEAN SHIPPING Company has purchased independent depot Container Services in Cape Town in a deal which becomes effective on August 1.
In our logistics chain we have been dependent on the performance of several depots and the advantage of having our own depot for the first time is that we will be in complete control, Cape regional director Mike Economou told FTW.
Container Services, situated at 110 Voortrekker Road, Salt River, was formed 20 years ago and specialises in container storage and handling, sales, refurbishing, repairs and refrigeration services.
Manager Chris Finnegan who has been retained along with the 38-member staff complement, says the premises cover 12 000sqm and make provision for 38 reefer plug points. MSC will utilise the lion's share of the space, the remainder taken up by a number of long-standing clients.
