FORMER KASERNE police station commander Capt Schutte has been transferred at the request of cartage operators, police spokesman Sgt Mark Reynolds confirmed this week.

Reynolds told FTW that certain personnel changes had taken place at the industry's request to improve community policing relations.

Schutte has been transferred to John Vorster Square and replaced by Superintendent Marius Nel.

We are working very closely with the industry, and in order to illicit a better relationship acceded to their request that certain personnel changes take place, he said.

Reynolds said that he expected better co-operation between police and the industry to take place. Investigations into cargo and container theft were at a sensitive stage and it was important that the two parties work together.

However, no evidence of corruption or police complicity in thefts had been found.

Reynolds said police were aware of complaints that police were helping syndicates steal cargo. Senior officers from John Vorster Square were currently overseeing the Kaserne station and would report any signs of corruption.

There is no place for corruption in the police, he said.
