The Chamber of Mines is cautiously optimistic for 2018, saying there is reasonable hope for the sector. CEO Roger Baxter said positive green shoots could be seen indicating spring was on the way following several harsh winters. Commenting on the biggest challenges in 2018, he said ethical leadership, good governance and policy remained the single biggest threats facing the industry and its growth at present. “The key to success is working with government to get our industry back on track,” said Baxter, who reiterated that the Chamber was not engaging with Minister of Mineral Resources Mosebenzi Zwane as they had lost confidence in his leadership.
