THE INDIAN government is fully behind the proposed preferential trade agreement (PTA) with the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu). According to the Business Standard (India), prime minister Manmohan Singh expressed the hope just before he left on his tour of SA that it would “become a reality before long”. When asked about the prospects, Singh said the cabinet had already approved negotiations for such an agreement.
