WAREHOUSING IS all about efficient and speedy throughput, which is why ZA Trans Logistics has invested heavily in a lot more than square metres. Its main facility in Isando offers 9 000 m2 of space including a 2 500 m2 bond store with cantilever racking for storing items like copper bars. This is backed up by a network of facilities in Port Elizabeth, Durban, Cape Town and Namibia. “We also have all the equipment required to handle pick and pack, bulk and slip sheeting,” says Johannesurg branch manager Grant Palmer. ZA Trans Warehouse also has its own in-house crating and packing facility. “This allows us to shorten the lead times on preparing and repairing consignments for export,” he said. “We are also fully equipped to handle the stuffing and de-stuffing of containers for all types of cargo.” The company’s warehouse management system interfaces with its freight forwarding and customs software facilitating the speedy handling of all incoming and outgoing goods. “This enables us to keep an accurate audit trail for all consignments passing through the facility. And systems and procedures are specifically designed to cater for individual customer needs,” Palmer said. The warehouse is equipped with digital CCTV cameras which are monitored 24 hours a day along with a sophisticated security system.
