Ignorance of new fumigation rules demands attention

Kevin Mayhew GAUTENG-BASED Tusker Packaging Solutions is moving to new warehousing premises and has taken on more staff to meet the demand for packaging and warehousing of clients’ products. “There is a big demand for packaging solutions for telecommunications products, mining requirements and in the timber deck market,” says managing member, Reinhardt van der Westhuizen. He said one of the major challenges in the immediate future was to meet the treatment requirements of new international legislation for wooden packaging. “Many African countries do not even know of its existence let alone what the new international standards require, which could result in many consignments not being granted access to export countries – including South Africa,” he added.
