NOW THAT Hazchem and other legislation for transport of dangerous goods has been finalised, the liabilities and responsibilities are now clearly defined for all those along the logistics chain, according to Clifford Blackburn, MD of container haulage major, International Delivery Company (IDC). “This vastly reduces the previous risk involved in carrying hazardous products, with a distinct pressure on consignees to correctly declare and document dangerous cargoes,” he told FTW. It is also the crucial trigger-point where IDC feels safe entering the burgeoning hazardous goods road transport market. “There’s a huge demand for Hazchem container transport,” said Blackburn. The company has now brought all its relevant vehicles up to Hazchem specifications and standards, he added, and has become fully compliant with all the regulations regarding driver and general staff training.
