STUDENTS OF the South African branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) are gearing up for their pre-examination weekend training session later this month. It’s an annual happening designed to help students to prepare for the examinations in April. Prep 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of the event. “It’s modelled on a similar event held in the UK for many years and found to be very successful in bridging the gap between distance learning and the need and desire for students to interact personally with others,” says the Institute’s Fiona de Goede. “Tutors of the South African branch will be on hand to guide and assist students to prepare for the final few weeks of study prior to the exams.” Exam results over the last nine years indicate that students who attend the Prep weekend achieve a higher than average success rate, she added. The event is subsidised by the Institute to enable the fee to be kept reasonable and to allow as many people as possible to attend.
