Ibhayi freight diversifies

Port Elizabeth-based Ibhayi Freight Services is diversifying from its base in the hides, skins and textiles sector into other areas, says managing director Kevin Glegg. The company has started handling cargo for exporters and importers all the way down the Garden Route to Cape Town, where a satellite office has been opened. Unusual cargo from the Garden Route includes treated poles for Mauritius and vintage cars which are exported mainly to Europe. Imports include peat moss for mushroom farms in both the Garden Route and Port Elizabeth. “In the Port Elizabeth area we have seen substantial growth in import of steel and timbertype products,” he adds. Exports of mohair blankets, yarn, socks and other products by sea and air remain strong. Another specialisation is the import and export of household goods. “Most other agents shy away from household goods. We are geared up for household goods and have a very experienced team who handle the wrapping and packing of the container,” he says. Ibhayi is also providing support for inland freight agents who do not have representation in Port Elizabeth. “Import volumes in particular are growing,” he says. Ibhayi is represented in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban by agents.
