Helping smaller operators through the logistics minefield

KEVIN MAYHEW WITH MANY of the elements of logistics still out of the reach of smaller importers and exporters, there remains a need for this business category to be provided with simplified access to it. This is the view of Thabo Hlongwane, the owner of Landwave Air & Sea Service. The company, which next year celebrates its fifth year in business, was established to provide for the needs of smaller operators. “They are still out on a limb unless we provide the expertise in a manner that suits their start-up and growth needs and cash flow. Unfortunately the logistics element of import and export is still proving to be a minefield for their operations and business plans,” he explained. Johannesburg-based Landwave has taken on work for bigger operators but continues to cater for the minor players as well. With representative agents in its four key markets of Dubai, India, China and South America, it provides a door-to-door service for even its smallest clients. Its extended services include releasing products in small quantities as importers can sell them and pay for the rest.
