MSC is helping shippers to keep their cargo in containers from port to destination in Zambia, thus ensuring the security and integrity of cargo up to point of delivery at final destination. The line is also encouraging shippers to support exports containerised at source/ place of receipt by reducing or eliminating costs associated with moving containerised cargo from port to FD and turning in empty units in Zambia. “We have revised downward our turn-in fees for 20-foot containers into Lusaka, and have eliminated them completely for Kitwe,” Mesele Seyuba, director of MSC’s Lusaka office, told FTW. Other savings to shippers include lower handling fees, faster transit times and fewer losses as the cargo does not need to be destuffed and packed onto trucks at the port cities before being despatched to Zambia.
