Fleet owners will have to brace for further massive fuel price hikes as the price of all grades of petrol and diesel rise on Wednesday, 4 October.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has announced the latest raft of price hikes, which include an increase of R1.08 per litre in the price of 93 octane petrol which rises to R25.22, while 95 octane petrol will increase by R1.14 per litre to R25.68.
The price of diesel (0.05% sulphur) will go up by R1.96 per litre and diesel with 0.005% sulphur increases by R1.93 per litre. Illuminating paraffin will cost R1.51 per litre more and the price of LPGas will rise by R2.50 per/kg.
According to the DMRE, several international and local factors contributed to the latest increases in the petrol and diesel prices.
Higher oil prices led to higher prices of petroleum products and a global shortage of diesel further exacerbated the price inflation, while the rand weakening against the US dollar added around 22-26 cents per litre.
