Guardforce is back in business

Three and a half weeks after announcing that it was closing its doors, Guardforce International Transportation has rescinded its notice of termination with immediate effect.

“We had another meeting with Acsa and have a way forward to continue operating,” managing director Precious Nkosi said in an email dated January 29.

“However, a few more details have to be finalised with regard to the processes of gaining access to our facility.”

She told FTW Online that she could not comment until these details had been finalised.

“Unfortunately we have to continue with the one-day permit for now until we have concluded new Standard Operating Procedures and a Memorandum of Understanding with Acsa.”

The company announced earlier this month that it would close its doors on February 6. At the time FTW Online was told that security around the issuing of permits was at the heart of the problem – and there was plenty of finger-pointing on both sides.

FTW Online has contacted Acsa for comment.

Guardforce, which has marketed itself as a ‘Fort Knox’ air freight security facility at OR Tambo, has been operating for 20 years and closure would have resulted in the loss of 70 jobs.
