A PARTNERSHIP between the Grindrod Unicorn Group (Grincor) and local black entrepreneur Christopher Magagula has resulted in a new ships agency for Durban, Eyethu Ships Agency.
Magagula worked for Grincor as a human resources officer before branching out to open his own business, Mags Couriers.
According to Ivan Clark, managing director of Grincor, Magagula's knowledge of shipping and the Grincor Group as well as his proven entrepreneurial skills will enhance Eyethu's potential as the third arm of Grincor's ships agency business alongside Mitchell Cotts and King & Sons.
He described the joint venture as a significant step towards the development of further empowerment opportunities in the shipping and transport sector.
Grincor was determined to introduce a substantial black empowerment position in the group through partnering in various forms.
This will be for the benefit of a broad spectrum of people. We are already looking at other black empowerment deals.
There is much scope in the agency marketplace for an empowerment business with the infrastructure of a well-established agency. Eyethu will be going into the market for business but Grincor will introduce some existing business in order to make the new company immediately viable.
