Grincor acquires stake in ACT

GRINCOR HAS acquired a 50% stake in Auto Carrier Transport (ACT) in what it terms a strategic move to further develop the motor ferry business in South Africa and neighbouring states.
The two companies worked together when Unicorn Lines operated a dedicated vehicle carrier on the SA coastal service.
The Durban-based shipping and freight logistics group says the acquisition will provide significant additional business for Grincor while facilitating the growth of ACT's volumes.
Cape Town-based ACT handles about 25% of the South African motor ferry market. It moves 100 000 vehicles a year by road and rail from assembly plants in Pretoria, Durban and East London to depots in all major centres. Its export logistics division ferries vehicles to Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
