RAY SMUTS A RECORD of Decision from the Department of Environmental and Tourism regarding environmental aspects of the proposed extension of Cape Town’s container terminal reached port manager Sanjay Govan last week. Set to commence around 2007/08, the project originally quoted at R400million and now estimated at R1billion, will extend the 200-metre quayside by a further 300 metres, trebling annual stacking capacity from the current 500 000TEUs to 1.6million TEUs.
