In a bid to widen public participation in the mining industry, South Africa plans to use the drop in commodity prices to buy assets, said Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane.
"The issue of low commodity prices gives us the opportunity to actually identify the assets that will enable us to fast-track transformation and empowerment," he said.
In addition, Zwane told Bloomberg that government would work "hand in hand" with the industry to improve safety in the mining industry.
