ALAN PEAT THE MANAGEMENT at CrateLogic defines the company as an “exports solutions provider” rather than a crating or packing company, according to MD Ryan James. “We target the industrial and mining sector,” he told FTW, “specialising in abnormal and break-bulk loads.” The average weight of products packed is between 15 000-kilograms and 20 000-kg, but the company has just recently successfully crated an electric motor weighing 40 000-kg including packing materials. “We have written a packing specification,” said James, “which we stick to for all our export packing jobs, regardless of size. “This includes corrosion control, transit monitoring systems, and digital reports on the entire packing process.” Taking its industrial project handling one step further, CrateLogic has incorporated a sister company, Babjon Services. This partner service specialises in sand blasting, shot blasting and industrial coatings to the required specification. “We have handled projects from the blasting of the steel, to the specified coating, minor sub-assemblies, then to the crating, loading and lashing of containers,” James said. “All of this is handled under the one roof in our 7 000-square metre premises, and with the assistance of 30 000-kg overhead cranes.”
