MEMBERS OF the freight forwarding industry should take a positive view of any possible changes that will take place under a new government, according to an industry source who preferred not to be named. “My concern with the current government structure,” he said, “is that there has seemed to be a lack of continuity about anything they have done – including the restructuring of Transnet, port policy and regulations, and the like.” But will the guard be any better, or worse, than the old guard? That still remains an unanswered question, he said. And while a new government may lead to changes in trade and transport policy and the role it plays, at the end of the day it is the global economy that really dictates conditions in the market, he said.
