Further rate hikes predicted

THE JUNE 8 interest rate hike could be the start of a tightening cycle, in the view of Rand Merchant Bank economist Ettienne Le Roux. He sees a strong case for rates to increase by another 50bp in the second half of his year, with an outside risk of a further 50bp hike next year.
