Deputy minister of transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, will officially open and launch the realigned November (N1) freeway through Ventersburg in the Free State province today (Tuesday).
The N1 freeway was a two-lane single carriageway and has now been upgraded to a four-lane divided carriageway. The project costs are estimated at R295 million, according to a Department of Transport statement.
The N1 freeway is the main road transport corridor between the cities of Cape Town and Gauteng via Bloemfontein, and passes between the Mmamahabane Township on the eastern side of the N1 and Ventersburg on the western side.
