With the gradual formation of the global village concept, the logistics function of the forwarder has had to adapt to this new world order, according to Peter Meihuizen.

With the broadening application of the just in time (JIT) principle, he said, the sophistication of the logistics function of the forwarder will, in turn, have to become as sophisticated and, in many ways, as creative. Increasingly, companies are tending to out-source their storage and distribution functions - which suggests that the forwarding agent should increasingly look towards providing this service for his client. The concept of integrated logistics service providers is no dream. It is a basic actuality for the forwarding industry of tomorrow.
