THE DEPARTMENT of Customs and Excise will decide in the next two months whether to extend the stay of the 11 UK Customs officers currently in South Africa to add manpower to local customs investigations and to help with the training of junior staff members.
They've been here two months, and are due to stay until January. We'll decide in the next month and a half whether to extend their six month stay or to bring out more, deputy director Customs Johan Beets told FTW.
It's tremendous having them here. They're investigating the whole spectrum of fraudulent activities and have made excellent progress.
