Flying high!

It was a Christmas party with a difference when the staff of TCS Logistics took to the air in Durban. The Durban Skydive Centre was abuzz as the group arrived for a day of action and team building. According to TCS director Rogan Brent, the once-in-a-lifetime experience of skydiving was a gift to the hardworking staff following a bumper year for the company. “We had a 40% increase in revenue over 2010 and our capacity and productivity has been increasing steadily over the past 12 months,” said Brent. “This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the staff. We thought the skydiving would be a unique and special way to thank them.” A total of ten willing participants took part in tandem skydives – an outing that will be remembered for years to come. Brent’s eight-year-old son Daniel also joined in the fun for his second tandem jump with his father, a skydiving Tandem Master. “Over and above the gift to the staff, it was agreed that every staff member who took the plunge would donate R100 to the ‘Save the rhino fund’ and TCS contributed a further amount making a total donation of R3600,” said Brent. He said this was the perfect year-end for the company that has moved various projects into Africa over the past 12 months including some 200 Caterpillar machines to the Tete coal mine, 20 Terex TR100 dump trucks to KCM in Chingola, four Liebherr 984 excavators to Chingola and Solwezi, as well as at least 40 loads of project cargo to the Chisumbanje Ethanol plant in Zimbabwe. “This was only some of the project cargo we undertook and we are happy to say we also, over and above the project cargo, transported some 3000 TEUs into Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, DRC and Mozambique, as well as 40 000mt of cargo out of the Sadec region into South Africa.” According to Brent the day set the tone for 2012 for the company, which is planning to continue on its current growth trend.
