THERE'S BEEN an accolade for SA freight industry training in Geneva - as the SAAFF (SA Association of Freight Forwarders) courses are validated by the international freight industry body FIATA.
"At the congress, SA was recognised by FIATA as one of the world leaders in training," said Charles Dey, executive director of the F&C Chamber of the Transport SETA - the quality authority for training courses. "We have internationally benchmarked qualifications which are recognised anywhere in the world."
In 1996, SA was the first national body to apply for FIATA validation - and one of the first nine to be validated at that session, Dey told FTW. The SA courses written by SAAFF became eligible for a FIATA diploma.
The reason for this year's re-validation, according to Dey, has been a necessary re-write of the courses.
"We have moved from the syllabus-based courses which were originally validated, to outcomes-based," he said. "In their review, FIATA recognised the comprehensive way the courses were written around unit standards - and renewed the international status of our qualification.
"A very successful trip."
