PREPARATIONS FOR the 2004 FIATA congress at Sun City on September 20-23 this year have moved into top gear, with well-known industry personality Wendy Vorster spearheading the marketing drive. It’s the first time in its 78-year history that the conference - themed ‘Gateway to Africa’ - will be held in Africa, and represents the interests of around 40000 freight forwarding companies worldwide. The SA Association of Freight Forwarders will host the event. “With over 8 million employees in 150 member countries, FIATA is the largest international non-government organisation in the transport sector,” says Vorster. FIATA executives are due to visit South Africa shortly after which a detailed conference agenda and speaker list will be released. An exhibition, organised by Kagiso Exhibitions, will run alongside the conference. While FIATA is the international body representing the interests of the freight forwarding industry, the event is geared to a far wider industry audience.
