Faster movement of containers planned by Fedex

The United States Postal Service has embarked on innovative co-operation with the world's largest express freight company, Federal Express. In recognition of changing demand for the distribution of urgent and important items, two public/private-sector initiatives will exploit the strengths of the extensive FedEx Express air network, and the coast-to-coast retail network of United States postal facilities. From next month, FedEx Express will provide airport-to-airport transportation of containers holding 1,6m kg of Priority, Express and First-Class Mail for the US Postal Service. This is the equivalent of about 30 wide-body DC10 aircraft daily filled with postal shipments. The volumes will be carried using available capacity or on FedEx planes currently idle during the day. FedEx Express has also begun placing the first of up to 10 000 Drop Boxes outside United States Post Offices.
