Expanding overborder market revs up car-carrier business

IT’S BEEN five years of solid growth for the Benavani Freight Group car-carrying subsidiary, Motorlog, which has expanded from three car-carriers to a fleet of 15 – three of which are 11-car units. It has specialised in the door-to-door movement of cars and trucks – aiming at quality customer service and timely delivery of vehicles across Africa. “We are targeting the growing domestic new car industry,” said Benavani director, Yeagam Reddy, “and an ever-expanding crossborder operation – with frequent destinations like Namibia, Malawi and Zambia. “This demands a respect for the law, regulations and customs of the countries to which we transport. We need to have terms and conditions that are in line with the market.” The company has also designed a social responsibility programme – investing in the education of previously disadvantaged individuals in its industry, including some of those employed at Motorlog. “This is very much a philosophy of giving back to the community,” said Reddy, “and helping to promote economic parity and equal opportunity.”
