AFTER A reorganisation of its accounts - and including for the first full year revenue from its now merged intra-Asia subsidiary, Uniglory - Evergreen Marine more than trebled its net profit in 2003. This for a total of NT$3.42-billion (R725-million) - compared to NT$1.08-bn (R229-m) in 2002. Taiwan’s largest shipping line has spent much of the past 18 months axing unprofitable client accounts, FTW was told - principally Japanese ones. It also beat its own pretax profit estimates, with the results of the Chinese boom in the box market. Evergreen operates a fleet of around 120 vessels, and chairman Chang Yung-fa also announced an eight year plan for 50 newbuilds.
