The new railway line connecting Ethiopia and Djibouti is set to open early next year, according to Ethiopian Railways Corporation CEO, Getachew Betru.
The new line, roughly 700km, is being built by China Railway Engineering Corporation and China Civil Engineering Construction at a cost of US$4 billion, and is one of the major projects towards creating new manufacturing industries in Ethiopia, he added.
The project is also part of Ethiopia's plan of constructing around 5 000 km of new lines across the country by 2020.
"By October, a considerable portion of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti project will be completed," said Betru in a statement.
