OUTSOURCING LEADS to economies of scale and creates specialists, according to Arnold Garber, managing director of freight system specialists, Compu-Clearing.
We are IT (information technology) specialists. Our basic task is to accurately enter data - like exchange rates - needed to calculate customs values to assess the duty.
Without us, our clients would all have to do this on their own. But we offer economies of scale - only having to enter that data once.
Another benefit of outsourcing?
We've got a lot of customers who have a lot more money than we have, said Garber. But they hire their hardware from us. The benefit is that they have only one ass to kick - the IT specialists - if anything goes wrong.
Software?
Again economies of scale, Garber said. Each company would have to develop its own software.
Outsource to us - and they don't need to.
That's basically what drives
outsourcing, Garber told FTW.
