The suspension by the
SA National Roads
Agency Limited (Sanral)
of the start of e-tolling
in Gauteng leaves more
time for the Road Freight
Association (RFA) to
get some answers to the
queries it has laid before
the agency.
According to Gavin
Kelly, technical and
operations manager of the
association, there is an
all-stakeholders meeting
today (January 20), after
which certain matters
may be clarified.
Also, he confirmed,
the RFA recommendation
to members was not to
register for the e-tags
until some answers
were forthcoming.
This move was also
followed by various other
organisations.
“At this stage we have
not yet registered (for
e-tags),” said Mike Scott,
executive with trucking
major, Cargo Carriers,
and chairman of the
Federation of Southern
African Road Transport
Associations (Fesarta).
“We work closely with
the RFA, and it still has
matters pending about
the e-tolling system.”
Alex van Niekerk,
spokesman for Sanral,
said that he could reveal
no more than was
contained in the agency’s
release.
