A region-wide training programme designed to increase trade between the 15 members of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) has received funding of €250 000 (R5.2 million) from the Trade Facilitation West Africa (TFWA) Program, a five-year initiative managed by the World Bank Group and the German Development Cooperation Agency (GI Z).“To improve the free and efficient movement of goods in the Ecowas region, member states need well-trained national trade facilitation committees to catalyse the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and strengthen regional trading networks,” said Kolawole Sofola, Ecowas acting director of trade. The training is supporting national trade facilitation committees (NTFCs) in the region. It is also open to members of the public and private sector nominated by NTFC secretariats.
