Tariff Amendments

The rate of customs duty (duty) on used pneumatic tyres, classifiable under tariff subheadings 4012.20.10, 4012.20.90 and 4012.20, has been reduced from 25% and 15% to free of duty and the 8-digit subheadings are deleted to simplify the tariff structure.
Separate tariff subheadings have been created for air springs, classifiable under tariff subheadings 8708.99.03, 8716.90, 8716.90.10, and 8716.90.90, at a rate of duty of free.

Anti-dumping Application – Response Closed
The initiation of an investigation into the alleged dumping of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), classifiable under tariff subheading 3907.60.90, originating in or imported from China, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), India, Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand.
The application was initiated by SANS (Pty) Ltd and Hosaf (Pty) Ltd, representing the domestic manufacturers of the product, who alleges that they cannot compete with the low prices offered to importers and that the alleged dumped exported products are causing material injury and/or a threat of material injury.

Anti-dumping Amendment
(VB/126) – 10 May
The provision for a provisional payment (VB/126) in respect of cheese, classifiable under tariff subheading 0406.90, originating in or imported from Ireland, is now restricted to cheddar cheese as from the date of the imposition of the provisional payment i.e. with retrospective effect to 11 February 2005. The provisional payment will lapse on 11 August 2005.
The provisional payments are as follows:
• Cheddar cheese, imported from the Irish Dairy Board – 48%; and
• Cheddar cheese (excluding that imported from the Irish Dairy Board) – 60.2%.

The inaugural Export Africa exhibition, the continent’s first multi-sectoral export exhibition, will take place from 17 to 19 May 2005 at Gallagher Estate.
