The Port of Durban’s Car Terminal has offloaded 500 new Lepas vehicles that had arrived on the MV Siem Curie.
Lepas, an automotive brand fully owned by the Chery Group, is a new Chinese entrant in the South African automotive market.
Durban Car Terminal manager, Prince Manganyi, said global auto manufacturers placed continued confidence in the terminal as a reliable gateway for vehicle imports, transshipments and exports.
“The arrival and seamless handling of the first ever batch of the Lepas L4 vehicles in South Africa demonstrates our operational readiness and continued commitment to service excellence,” Manganyi said.
“The confidence that automotive partners keep showing the terminal affirms our position as a trusted and strategic hub for the automotive sector.”
In partnership with Lepas South Africa, the Durban Car Terminal celebrated the offloading of the vessel with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which served as the automotive manufacturer’s official launch of its vehicle entering the local market.
“The Durban Car Terminal remains committed to delivering world-class operations that support the growth of the automotive industry and facilitate trade that in turn creates local opportunities” said Manganyi.
