Strengthening its foothold in Durban will benefit Afnet’s reef customers, giving them the necessary representation needed at the port, says the company’s Niki Warren. The Boksburgheadquartered forwarding company recently opened a new office in Durban to facilitate the smooth handling of imports and exports thanks to its proximity to the Port of Durban. The group offers domestic and overborder transport services to Zimbabwe, Zambia, DRC, Mozambique, Malawi and Tanzania. “Afnet Durban offers a full range of services including a complete A–Z container service that allows for hire or drop-off in neighbouring countries,” says Warren. Part of the company’s growth strategy has been diversification. “We now also have a dedicated abnormal division that handles anything and everything from in-gauge step deck work to heavy abnormal B-route cargo,” says Warren. “All the abnormal work still includes the same destinations as normal cargo as well as handling and storage in our Johannesburg depot through the use of cranes, a 30-ton forklift and loading ramps if required.” According to Warren the company has also improved its project cargo offering which has seen an increase in movements in this sector. A dedicated consolidation office with its own staff to ensure quick and prompt delivery of all cargo from 1 kg to 30 000 kg has seen an improvement in turnaround times, she added. “All of the new ventures have enabled us to become a true logistics provider,” says Warren. “No longer do we just offer a solution in name only, but rather a value-added service. We believe we are redefining service and reliability. Relieving our customers of the obstacles of transporting cargo into Africa and ensuring a seamless and continuous movement of cargo is the end result.” INSERT & CAPTION We now also have a dedicated abnormal division that handles anything and everything from in-gauge step deck work to heavy abnormal B-route cargo. – Niki Warren
