The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) has once again drawn attention to plans to create a dedicated agro-processing incentive to attract investment, Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, told delegates at a two-day manufacturing indaba in Cape Town this week.
“This sector is critical because of its labour intensity across the value chain and its high economic multipliers - especially with respect to exports,” he said. “The incentive will contain strong conditions, including with respect to labour practices and empowerment. In this latter case it is imperative that the Western Cape ensures that economic activity and economic growth are inclusive,” he said.
