DoT commits to collaboration

The department of transport (DoT) has called on the trucking industry to collaborate and work with officials to address the numerous challenges faced by industry at present.

Chris Hlabisa, the DoT’s deputy director general for road transport, said it was not government’s intention to push regulations and new policies down operators’ throats.

“We want to engage and see what is feasible or not. We are willing to look at the bigger picture of things.”

This is not the first time the DoT has promised engagement – and trucking operators are sceptical about whether discussions will materialise as they have found no open door in the past when taking up these requests with the DoT.
