Decision on new acting CE for Transnet expected today

A decision on the appointment of an acting chief executive (CE) for Transnet is expected to be taken today (Monday) said public enterprises minister, Lynne Brown.

This after her announcement on Friday that the parastatal’s current chief executive, Brian Molefe, had been appointed as the acting chief executive of Eskom, with immediate effect.

Transnet said in a statement that this decision had been made in consultation with the boards of directors at Transnet and Eskom.  “Mr Molefe’s appointment to address what is arguably the country’s biggest challenge, serves as a ringing endorsement of the depth of leadership we have at Transnet and our CE’s unquestionable talent as a leader,” said the chairperson of the Transnet board of directors, Linda Mabaso.

A Tweet on the SA Gov News Twitter page cited Molefe as saying his first priority at the helm would be to deal with load shedding. He said the medium-term plan of action was to reduce reliance on coal and to increase alternative sources of energy.
Molefe has been in his role at Transnet since 2011 and was the Public Investment Corporation CEO from 2003 to 2010.
