A point-three index measurement of growth in the Absa Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) means movement in South Africa’s manufacturing sector is “levelling off”, the Bureau for Economic Research (BER), which compiles the PMI, has said.
It comes after “solid month-on-month gains were recorded in the wake of April 2020’s lockdown-induced plunge in activity”.
More precisely, the Bureau said that the PMI for December had declined to 50.3 points, or 0.3 above the 50 index points required to indicate growth.
December’s decline comes after the BER measured the PMI at 52.6 in November.
