Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has inaugurated its second office in Kenya, extending its reach to the port city of Mombasa in Africa’s fastest growing economy.

This addition complements its existing presence in Nairobi, allowing SGL to compete with industry frontrunners and furnish customers with competitive local and regional logistics services.

This expansion comes on the heels of SGL's entry into the Kenyan market six months prior, with the establishment of an office in Nairobi in April 2023.

With the opening of the Mombasa office, SGL now boasts a network of 12 offices across the continent, fortifying its strategic footing in Africa.

Kenya's logistics landscape is witnessing rapid growth, buoyed by enhanced infrastructure such as the standard-gauge railway that links the coastal city of Mombasa with the inland capital, Nairobi, as reported by Stat Media Group.

Michael Mnyubi, operations manager of the Mombasa office, said: "Mombasa plays a pivotal role as a logistics hub for Kenya and the wider East and Central Africa region.

“With our local office, we can directly manage operations and enquiries, eliminating the need for intermediaries. This enables us to deliver enhanced services, streamline cargo handling, and ensure prompt clearance, thereby boosting efficiency and saving our customers both time and additional expenses."

The new Mombasa office will initially be staffed by seven seasoned logistics professionals, offering various services, including customs clearance, transhipment, and warehousing to cater for customer needs.

SGL's expansion into Kenya aligns with its broader strategy for growth across Africa. Presently, the company has offices in Senegal, Mali, the Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, and South Africa.

Duncan Wagura, managing director of SGL Kenya, remarks: "Mombasa's strategic positioning equips us to effectively tap into the promising markets of Eastern and Central Africa. We are committed to further strengthening our presence in Kenya and the wider African continent, offering our local and global clientele comprehensive, efficient, end-to-end logistics solutions."
