RAY SMUTS EXPORTERS MORE focused on procuring the right products for their respective markets, leaving the nitty-gritty like customs formalities to their clerks, would have come away with a much clearer understanding of the role of customs after a presentation by Cape Town customs branch manager, Coffet Lebepe. Addressing the Cape Town Exporter’s Club recently, Lebepe said Cape Town Customs processe 12 000 import bills of entry and 8 500 export bills of entry a month. The 166-strong branch also deals with five licensed container depots, 3 605 exporters, 239 bonded warehouses, 301 rebate registrants and 408 clearing agents.
