CARGO SERVICE Center is now the largest single cargo handler operating out of Cape Town International Airport following the signing of a three-year contract with Malaysia Airlines, effective June 1.
The carrier had been with Swissport for several years before switching to CSC and, in the words of Cape Town terminal manager Allan Booysen, the signing "represents an opportunity for us to grow even more rapidly."
Malaysia Airlines operates five passenger flights a week to Cape Town from Kuala Lumpur via Johannesburg for a monthly cargo volume of 500 tons and Booysen estimates this could increase to 800 tons should the carrier decide to introduce a 747 freighter.
CSC's Cape Town branch also undertakes cargo handling for BA (7 flights, 125 tons of cargo a week), KLM (7 flights, about 100 tons of cargo a week) and Virgin Atlantic (2 flights and 25 tons a week).
