Cross-border transporters’ routes made easier with new app

The new TRANSPark app will soon include information on border posts located along the North - South Corridor.

Transporters along the North - South Corridor in southern Africa will soon be able to identify the locations of border posts, weighbridges and toll booths along their route with the planned update of the TRANSPark application.

The Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta), Transport Logistics Consultants (TLC) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) jointly launched TRANSPark along the North - South corridor in southern Africa late last year.

CEO of Fesarta, Mike Fitzmaurice, told FTW Online that there were also plans to include a GPS tracking capability on the app to enable fleet operators and corridor management organisations to locate trucks, monitor transport times and analyse delays at key check-points.

Developed by IRU, TRANSPark is a free online app that helps truck drivers find secure and comfortable parking areas. “The app currently helps drivers to plan their routes and rest stops in floodlit, guarded areas from Durban to Tanzania – including Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe,” said Fitzmaurice.

According to him, TRANSPark is available in Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
