Ray Smuts WHEN DIRECTOR Gerald Hagemann admits things are really tight at Cape Town clearing and forwarding agents Meihuizen International, he is not referring to the state of the business but rather the cramped confines since a fire gutted the entire office three months ago. An electric short is thought to have been responsible for the night fire which destroyed 800sq m of floor space causing damage of more than R2 million. Not to be put down, Meihuizen’s systems were up and running from makeshift quarters within hours. What is certain is that all at Meihuizen will heave a collective sigh of relief when they move into their totally rebuilt Bree Street offices at the end of July.
Cramped, but firing on all cylinders
